KCFD FIREFIGHTERS OWED OVER $10 MILLION IN WAGES
KCMO Firefighters and the City of Kansas City, MO agreed to a new contract starting in 2024. The implementation of this contract was delayed due to extended negotiations. Once approved, the contract was retroactive dating to May 1, 2024 including the pay increases that members received. KCMO City Council agreed to back pay all members the difference in pay we received with the new contract. It is approaching 1 year and KCFD members have yet to recieve any form of back pay from the city of KCMO and have actually been met with nothing but push back.
On top of the over $10 Million owed to Firefighters in back pay, Firefighters have had to fight with City payroll weekly as paychecks have become NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE to read and calculate. It has now become a consistent trend for paychecks to be littered with errors and incorrect hours on paychecks due to the outdated payroll system Mayor Lucas, City Council and the City of KCMO REFUSE to update and fix even though it was agreed upon in the new contract. Firefighters are SICK OF IT and are exploring lawsuits as we are tired of being paid incorrectly. This is nothing new as you can look up a long history of suits filed on behalf of Local 42 Firefighters for incorrect wages. KCMO Firefighters campaign and are political puppets for this City yet are constantly met with push back any time Firefighters are wronged and the City doesn't hold up their end of agreements.
FIREFIGHTERS ARE ANGRY AND FED UP WITH IT!
Here's what Local 42 Union Leadership has informed its KCFD members.
"I will start off with the good news on the numbers we received. The initial calculation of wages owed to our membership is just over $9.2 million dollars, which is a significant number. Perhaps less good news is that within the first hour of review, the Local found some inaccuracies in the data and missing wages that were not captured by the program built to figure what the City owes us."
"Additionally, there is another backpay calculation ongoing for the time period from early December 2021 up through April 19, 2024. This backpay is in response to a grievance filed by the local some time ago that was sustained in our favor. The Union has also received the initial calculations for backpay for that time period and is reviewing the files. The initial number for wages owed from that time period is $775k. However, the City has not captured all of the incorrect pay issues that the Union has identified for this backpay calculation and it appears that they are refusing to recalculate with everything included."
The citizens of KCMO deserve to know Mayor Q and City Council members consistently treat their First Responders like garbage after all they do for this great City. WE ARE TIRED OF THE PANDERING AND EMPTY PROMISES. PAY YOUR KCMO FIREFIGHTERS CORRECTLY ACCORDING TO THE AGREEMENT YOU MADE WITH THEM!!
