THIS REPORT FROM THE STAR IS NOTHING BUT MARKETING HYPE FOR THE CHAMBER & LOCAL SUITS!!!
In communication studies we call this practice:
Social Judgement Theory . . . A summary:
Social Judgment Theory (SJT) explains how individuals perceive and evaluate new information by comparing it to their existing attitudes and beliefs. It suggests that the more a message deviates from a person's existing viewpoint, the less likely they are to accept it. SJT proposes that people have a "latitude of acceptance," a range of positions they find agreeable, a "latitude of rejection," a range they find unacceptable, and a "latitude of non-commitment," a range they are neutral about.
Put even more simply . . .
To "move the dial" according to SJT merely involves slowly directing people toward viewpoints with which they already agree.
A big part of that is by convincing locals they're in the minority about stadium opposition EVEN AFTER an overwhelming election defeat.
It's a neat trick that only works on suckers who don't see it coming . . . And so, here's the newspaper deploying the tactic against readers . . . Rather than just reporting news:
A good number of people, albeit a minority — 38 of 100 — flat out said “no,” they don’t want a new stadium. They love The K as it is. But if it must be rebuilt, “Re-do this one,” said one fan . . . The prime reason: sentiment and more than a half century of memories.
