Kansas City Police Investigate After Two Teens Shot Dead

KCPD shares info with media and the community after gunfire claimed the lives of two young men on a Saturday afternoon. 

This latest local spate of deadly shooting pushes the local homicide count to 46 killings so far this year compared to 43 at this time in 2024. 

Here is the first report . . .

Homicide 12th and Belmont

This afternoon at 12:45pm officers were dispatched to 12th and Belmont on a shooting call.

On arrival officers were directed to a vehicle in the road there. Inside that vehicle officers located two male shooting victims unresponsive. (The victims ages are not known for sure , but are believed to be in their teens)

Officers summoned EMS to the scene who declared the victims deceased.

Homicide detectives are at the scene investigating, they are canvassing for witnesses and working to determine what led up to the shooting.

Crime scene investigators are processing the scene and gathering all the available evidence.

Investigation indicates that the victims were inside the vehicle at the location when they had an interaction with one or more suspects and shots were fired. Both victims were inside the vehicle when they were struck by the gunfire.

Initial responding officers took one subject of interest into custody for further investigation. Detectives are working to determine that subject of interest’s exact involvement at this time.
