Right now we notice worsening outrage amongst locals following the horrific & fatal stabbing of a Kansas City first responder.
The low-key fact that some metro media have downplayed . . .
Locals question why the suspect with an extensive criminal history was still roaming local streets.
As readers have noted:
"Suspect had been arrested April 23 after allegedly severely biting another off-duty officer on the arm, after he’d approached her about pulling on vehicle door handles outside his home."
There might be blame to pass around or excuses that won't help heal the loss but from our vantage, here's the question that applies to everyone inside KCMO . . .
HOW IS KANSAS CITY GOING TO CURB HOMICIDES WITH SO MANY VIOLENT CRIMINALS EVADING PUNISHMENT?!?
This is a critical question to consider and so far the answer has been nothing more than election promises and hope that more taxpayer funded "anti-violence" programing will prove effective as the KC homicide count continues to trend upward over the past decade.
Meanwhile . . .
Instead of asking tough questions . . . We can't really blame most local media for focusing on the human loss and tragedy of the latest local killing . . .
Accordingly . . .
A statement from KCFD Chief Ross Grundyson was the most poignant we've seen so far and something we think needs to be shared for perspective on the very real human tragedy . . .
"It is with a heavy heart and great sorrow that I announce the death of Firefighter Paramedic
Graham Hoffman. Firefighter Hoffman was stabbed in the chest, piercing his heart, while
transporting a patient to a local hospital on what started out as a routine call. Firefighter
Hoffman’s partner immediately initiated a crew emergency and additional KCFD and KCPD
personnel were dispatched to the scene. KCFD crews worked to save Firefighter Hoffman’s life while enroute to North Kansas City Hospital. Lifesaving efforts were performed in the emergency room prior to moving Graham to surgery. After surgery Firefighter Hoffman was placed in ICU where he succumbed to his injuries.
"Firefighter Graham Hoffman was 29 years old and was a member of the Department for three
years. Graham was a vibrant individual who loved life and loved serving his community. He was
an excellent paramedic who treated his patients with the highest level of skill and compassion."
