
Unofficially, this is homicide #50 so far this year . . . That tragic number puts is noticeably ahead of last year's pace as KCMO records 4 homicides in less than 24 hours.
Here's tonight's report shared with local media . . .
Homicide 9th and Prospect
This evening just before 6PM, officers were dispatched to 9th and Prospect on a reported shooting.
Officers arrived on scene in less than one minute, and located an adult male victim in a business parking lot suffering from apparent gunshot trauma and unresponsive.
EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital with critical injuries. Officers received an update from the hospital the victim had succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased.
Preliminary information provided to officers indicated multiple individuals entered the store and were involved in a physical altercation with another male party that ultimately resulted in shots being fired. Responding officers escorted several bystanders out of the area to safety while canvassing for any potential suspects.
Multiple individuals have been taken into custody for further questioning. Currently, we are not looking for any additional suspects.
Homicide detectives in crime scene personnel have responded to the scene to begin gathering evidence and collecting witness statements. This incident is being investigated as a homicide and is ongoing at this time.
We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.
We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.

Admin BREAKING - Just before 6 p.m., this evening, April 28, Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) officers responded to the intersection of Ninth Street and Prospect Avenue on a reported shooting call. Once on the scene, officers discovered an adult male victim, unresponsive and experiencing gunshot wounds in a parking lot.
