Kansas City 2025 Homicide #41: Northeast Suffers Deadly Drive-by

Early morning gunfire starts the work week as police ask any witness to help gather information.

Here's the first report from the scene . . . 

Homicide Independence Ave and Lawndale Ave

This morning just after 3:30 AM, East Patrol officers were dispatched to the area of Independence Avenue and Lawndale Avenue on a reported shooting.

Upon arrival, they located an adult male victim on a sidewalk suffering from apparent gunshot trauma and unresponsive. EMS responded to the scene and declared the victim deceased at that time.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle may have been driving through the area and began firing shots, ultimately striking the victim. A suspect vehicle and person of interest has not been identified yet. We do not currently have anyone in custody.

Homicide detectives in crime scene personnel have responded to the scene to begin gathering evidence and collecting witness statements. This incident is being investigated as a homicide and is ongoing at this time.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
