Claire's Closes Amid Cont'd Kansas City Country Club Doom Spiral

There's reason to doubt promises about renewal for one of this town's most iconic shopping districts.

To wit . . . 

COUNTRY CLUB PLAZA CAN'T EVEN SELL CHEAP JEWELRY TO EAGER TWEENS!!!

That's a bad sign given that even nearly dead malls can sustain this kind of biz. 

A bit earlier this week, local newsie Joyce Smith broke this story . . .

"At Claire’s boutique, 231 W. 47th St. on the Country Club Plaza. Phone is disconnected and the location is no longer listed on the chain’s website or the Plaza’s website.

"Plaza officials directed questions to Claire’s. Officials with Claire’s couldn’t be reached for comment."

“It’s really hard for us to drive traffic when we have no neighbors who are bringing in traffic,” one Plaza retailer said.
