The new addition to the Nelson was celebrated by critics but mostly HATED by the public. People liked the extra space but most didn't appreciate the modern look.  

And here's the bigger picture . . .

In the age of the Internets, the museum can't avoid public backlash against silly designs that mostly serve to crowd and spoil otherwise iconic & classic architecture.
