Here's a worthwhile recap of today's hot mess:
Jonathan India was up to bat in the ninth inning with two outs when Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase threw two fastballs, a pitch he doesn't regularly throw, up and inside, the latter hitting him on his helmet at 99 mph.
India went down to a knee before leaving the game, visibly frustrated. MJ Melendez came in to pinch-run.
A team spokesperson said India does not have a concussion and he will be evaluated further over the next few days.
Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino expressed some irritation toward Clase's pitch.
"He threw a pitch that he doesn't ever throw, the pitch before, which was a four-seam fastball. It was his first one of the year," Pasquantino said.
