An important aspect of the KCMO budget debate was overlooked amid protest and racially charged posturing but we think it's worth considering for TKC readers who follow the news closer than most of the plebs . . .
NOTICE KANSAS CITY PROGRESSIVE PUSH BACK AGAINST MORE SPENDING ON POLICE!!!
Per ushe . . .
We've witnessed most of the objections for an increase in funding for law enforcement coming from our progressive media pals . . .
Add this outcry against an election debate over funding for a new jail and, like it or not, we're witnessing the familiar "defund police" refrain that even the most diehard (mainstream) Democratic Party leaders have rebuked and attempted to dispute.
Nevertheless . . . The sentiment persists in quite a few cowtown progressive bubbles.
For instance . . . Leading up to the debate, here's developer cheerleader Kevin Collison offering a scathing bit of law enforcement criticism . . .
"With the absurd amount of violent and property crime in this city, way above the national average for places of our size, how can anyone believe KCPD merits this kind of money? If Jefferson City believes it can manage the department better than our elected city representatives, than let the state pay its budget too..."
"The submitted budget for this year gives KCPD $25 million more than the previous year, for a total of $343 million."
And then, after the budget was passed . . . We noticed a bit more op/ed layered in "public radio" reporting . . .
"The Kansas City Council passed a $2.5 billion budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, its largest ever. The police department will get even more money than before, while council members will discuss a proposal next week to fully fund the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority in the short term. "
