Understanding (anti-police) arguments against the tax is important as Kansas City activist rhetoric seems to be gaining traction by way of their contention that cash for the jail takes away community funds.

Members of the police and fire departments gave a packed South Kansas City Alliance meeting details Monday on how the $20 million - $25 million the tax generates each year has traditionally been spent.
Decarcerate KC and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference both oppose the tax, saying this time around its not clearly supporting police, fire or EMS.
"We are trying to make it clear and let people know that if they are voting for this you are actually voting for a defunding of resources, so that the majority of the resources will be going to a city jail," Decarcerate KC's Amaia Cook said.
