Platte County Secures $6.8 Million Federal Grant to Enhance MO Route AA/Waukomis Drive  

Platte County, MO – Platte County has been awarded a $6.8 million federal grant to fund significant improvements to Missouri Route AA/Waukomis Drive, stretching from US 69 in Riverside to I-29. This transformative project aims to enhance safety, accessibility, and connectivity for residents and visitors by introducing new sidewalks, linking to regional trails, and improving access to local parks and businesses.  

The grant will reconstruct the existing roadbed originally constructed in the 1940’s and modernize this key corridor, fostering better pedestrian and vehicular flow. The proposed improvement will be a two-lane complete street with curbs, sidewalks, modern street lights, and a stormwater conveyance system.  The initiative reflects Platte County’s commitment to infrastructure development that supports economic growth and quality of life.  

“For too long, Platte County hasn’t fully leveraged its sales taxes to fund projects like this,” said Platte County Presiding Commissioner Scott Fricker. “Securing this grant stretches our county’s tax dollars further, allowing us to deliver safer roads, connected trails, and better access to parks and businesses without putting the full burden on our residents.”  

Northmoor Mayor Lynda Wilson echoed the excitement, emphasizing the community impact. “This grant is a game-changer for our area,” Wilson said. “New sidewalks and trail connections will make it easier for families to enjoy our parks and support our local businesses, all while keeping Northmoor a welcoming place to live and explore.”  

Construction is expected to begin sometime in 2028 following final design and federal approvals, with Platte County officials working closely with state and federal partners to ensure timely completion.  Further details on the project timeline and community input opportunities will be shared as they become available.
