Councilman Duncan Declares Opposition Against Kansas City Jail Tax

A lengthy screed is garnering interest from this local politico who has quite a bit of opposition from colleagues on this hotly debated topic.

Here's his money line . . .

"Kansas City is under-resourced. We've funded our enforcement efforts, but we've failed to sufficiently fund our lack of shelter, public health, and our schools. For every $1 we spend on public health, we spend $12 on police and jails; for every $1 we spend on housing our people, we spend $12 on police and jails; for every $1 we spend on assisting our homeless population we spend $72 on police and jails. Every year we increase funding to police and jails, and every year our public safety issues continue to rise. If we fund what we value, we've sent the message we value locking people up more than we value their lives, their housing, their health, and our children's future."
