Clay Chastain Debuts MCI Monorail Plan

Clay Chastain Press Release: Here Comes Vision & Here Comes KC. This weekend, Chastain & supporters launch a Titanic Petition proposing (Cutting-Edge) ideas, (advanced) mobility options & (infrastructure) improvements designed to better urban living, fire up the economy & put the thrill back in KC. The People's Initiative proposes creating a 'Transit Utopia' mixing Streetcars, Greenways, Electric Buses and an Airport Monorail to connect our Community together & be the inexorable urban force needed to ignite the resurgence of Kansas City. Chastain predicts the People's Initiative will speak to younger generations & inspire them to rush the polls, carry the day & effectuate a New Era of Progress.

Our City's success has been derailed by a dismal era of... high crime, economic stagnation, congestion, high transportation costs, a contracting urban core & a $110 million per year Transit Dog that won't hunt. A Juggernaut is needed to turn the tide, speed past the status quo & put our 'Promise' back into gear. KC's younger generations long for something new - a Change Parameter to make their lives better. The Initiative obliges by delivering convenient, environmentally-friendly & money-saving options to move about Town.

So the following Initiative will be circulated among KC Voters in the hopes they will take charge of the place they call home, sign the Petition & lead our Community in not only making life better for all, but also in recapturing our "Promise" as..."the City Beautiful".

Shall the City of Kansas City, Missouri extend the 3/8-cent bus sales tax for an additional 40-years (upon its expiration in 2033) & impose a new 1/4-cent capital improvement sales tax for 40-years (beginning 1/1/26) in order to secure federal funds & provide for the following capital improvements:

1.Construct (Citywide) Monorail System operating from KCI Airport (Monorail Platform @ floor level of single terminal) to KC Zoo with additional service to Northland, Union Station, Plaza & Eastside, and utilize the Amity Ave. / Interurban Right of Way / Hwy. 169 / Broadway / Brush Creek / Swope Parkway Corridor, and establish a Fleet of Mini-Electric Shuttle Buses to transport passenger between Monorail Stations and surrounding neighborhoods, destinations & job centers;

 2. Construct Greenways (dedicated urban corridors for cyclists / pedestrians / scooterists) to improve mobility options between neighborhoods, about Town and to Monorail Stations;

3. Upgrade Penn Valley Park into Natural / Sustainable Downtown Park that excludes (interior) traffic, roads & pkg. lots & that includes new recreational trails, open green space & Monorail line;   

4. Construct Regional Transportation Hub @ Union Station (requires razing bldgs. @ 2300 & 2301 Main St.) to facilitate connections between Streetcars, City & Metro Buses, Greenways & Monorail?
