We don't want our conservative readers to misunderstand our recent coverage/blogging of local progressive protest and outrage . . .
It's just reality that this cowtown is taking an even more progressive turn . . .
HOWEVER, this post offers a very good reason to LOVE our conservative friends in Missouri.
To wit . . .
WITNESS MISSOURI GOP BATTLING KANSAS CITY'S EFFORT TO REVIVE UNCONSTITUTIONAL RED LIGHT CAMERAS!!!
And so . . .
Our perspective has always been that we need both conservatives & progressives out there in fierce rhetorical competition because one party domination is dictatorship and not Democracy.
But let's not forget . . .
Without Missouri Republicans taking up local push back against red light cameras in Kansas City more than a decade ago . . . KCMO would be one of the many dysfunctional "blue cities" earning de facto taxes from the populace gained by intrusive tech.
Accordingly . . .
This report deserves more attention . . .
According to the bill’s language, “No county, city, town, village, municipality, state agency, or other political subdivision of this state” would be authorized to use red light or license plate reader enforcement systems. Additionally, the bill seeks to limit “access [to] plate data captured from vehicles on a public highway.”
Supporters may feel the bill protects privacy rights and prevents government overreach, while opponents may feel it could weaken traffic enforcement and public safety.
