Report: KC Northland Shooter To Plead Guilty To Lesser Charge

It looks like one of the most controversial shooting cases in recent Kansas City history has been settled behind the scenes. 

Here's our takeaway long and probably the most important not-so-fun-fact of this story . . .

NO, IT'S NOT OKAY TO SHOOT SOMEBODY FOR KNOCKING ON YOUR DOOR!!! NOPE, NOT EVEN IF THEY JIGGLE THE HANDLE!!!

Grow up . . . This ludicrous defense was a staple of the online discourse and poor souls dedicated themselves to selling this self-destructive narrative that is the opposite of thoughtful gun safety advice. 

Think about it this way . . .

If the frail, old and lonely dude had calmed his nerves and held his fire . . . He would have avoided spending the last years of his life in court after MISTAKENLY shooting somebody who clearly wasn't a threat. We want to live in a world where people have gun rights and have the confidence to fire their weapon ONLY when absolutely necessary as a last resort and NOT the wild west where people get shot for nothing.  

However . . .

The more important aspect of this story is how an old man was demonized by so many news outlets that covered this unfortunate series of events. 

The public offered up MILLIONS to support a narrative that imagined dangerous suburban racism and newsies even dug up estranged relatives to try and talk trash on Mr. Lester when the reality is that he was a sad & feeble old guy living by himself and obviously terrified of the world outside of his door. Andrew Lester is neither a racist nor a villain . . . He's a reminder that even the greatest of generations will end their days in virtual prisons they have built for themselves. 

Here's the corresponding report released a couple of hours ago . .  .

"Andrew Lester was scheduled to stand trial next week on charges of first-degree assault and armed criminal action in the shooting of the then 16-year-old, who survived.

"On Thursday, prosecutors said Lester would appear in court Friday, but they did not say why. Two people familiar with the case who requested anonymity to speak in advance of Friday’s hearing told The Associated Press that Lester will plead guilty. One of those people said he will plead to a lesser charge of second-degree assault."
