Recycling Objections To Tomahawk Chop & Kansas City Chiefs

Not all Super Bowl dynasty traditions are worthwhile . . .

To wit . . .

ONCE AGAIN WE MUST ENDURE TRADITIONAL DEBATE OVER "THE CHOP" & THE NATIVE-AMERICAN MOTIF OF THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS!!!

Sorry man, but this one is just played out . . .

The progressive outcry over the name comes mostly from middle-aged, middle-class white ladies and/or college students who haven't yet learned to stop taking themselves seriously.

Moreover . . . Outside of activists, there aren't a lot of Native-American people who really take this discussion seriously when bigger issues like healthcare access, job training and the scourge of diabetes have much more serious implications for Native communities.

But it gets worse . . .

The defense of the moniker and turning natives into mascots is EQUALLY INSUFFERABLE inasmuch as nobody wants to be lectured about American exceptionalism and/or the Bering Strait crossing theory by a 300lb 61-year old who smells like BBQ chicken tenders and is drunk on craft beer and stolen valor by way of watching far too many History channel WWII documentaries.

Btw, the Bering Strait land bridge theory might be bogus after all . . . Either way, none of it gives some middle-manager the right perform cultural cosplay without at least a bit of well-deserved shame in much the same way that TKC feels like a jerk whenever I have to put on a tie . . . Given the choice I'd much rather wear Viking horns EVERYWHERE

But I digress . . .

And all of this is just a bit of fun to make this old argument and discussion seem interesting and help us forget that old-school KC was actually a pretty horrible place that was even more corrupt than today. Which is why all the nice people escaped to JoCo in the first place.

Here's the quote and traditional news link . . .

"As Kansas City celebrates the Chiefs’ third consecutive Super Bowl appearance, the team name, logo, and some problematic fan customs like the “tomahawk chop” are once again being broadcast worldwide. But where did it all start, and how did the team avoid becoming the Kansas City Texans?"
