Right now we REALLY want to get into #TBT with an interview that our fellow old heads will enjoy. And NOBODY else.
For those who don't know . . .
Frank Bowl was a sports broadcaster in the latter half of the 20th century. We respect his work and we don't wanna be mean . . . But he was also one of the local TV newsies that people often has "opinions" about when they met him in person. To be fair, it's hard to keep up a TV friendly demeanor every second of the day and back then the KC media scene was exceptionally clingy before the advent of Internets celebrities.
Speaking of . . . Frank Bowl's new show "There's Just Something About Kansas City" probably has the best podcast setup of any old school broadcaster and we have to give him credit for that . . . Sure, the decor looks like a pr0n movie but we admire the effort to get clear visuals and mic-up guests properly.
Now . . .
We'll assume that everyone knows Dana & Parks . . . The midday KC talkers have pretty much given up on politics and now their chat show is mostly A VERY SUCCESSFUL hangout for middle-age humor, local foodie updates and banal observations about middle-class white suburban life.
As H.L. Mencken once noted . . .
"Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American people."
Which is probably why TKC is still around after all these years.
Anyhoo . . .
Here's why this content capture our attention . . .
The interview starts out with Scott Parks professing his love for Dana that's sure to spark a lot more social media chatter.
But mostly this guest spot features a great deal of small market insider media chatter and a few laugh lines. It also kills me a little to give Parks credit for wearing the classic checkerboard Vans in what might be a shout out to Jeff Spicoli and hope that staring down 60 comes with a very special kind of confidence that's hard to fake.
Here's a quote from the official show description . . .
"In today’s episode, the talk show duo explain how they originally connected and why they feel listeners can relate to what they hear every weekday from 2-6pm. Anxiety, diet yoyo, even Scott’s battle with alcoholism — they go deep into their relationship, their life stories, and why it just 'works'. Between the laughs and the tears, you’ll understand why they are one of the Top 10 radio talk shows in the country."Now, the challenge to TKC readers . . .
LET'S BE MORE CLEVER THAN MEAN WITH OUR COMMENTS ON THESE STRANGELY BELOVED KC TALKERS!!!
Dana's politics are classic Nordstrom's progressive JoCo white lady whilst Scott has sparked hatred amongst many for being an older dude who is VERY skeptical of MAGA . . . And sometimes outright hostile to his fierce critics. But, as we noted, their show isn't overtly political and now seems more like a very popular local "lifestyle" program.
Just sayin . . . There's no use getting worked up over these two . . . And we always want to challenge the haters to venture outside of programic talking points.
But I digress . . . And simply leave TKC denizens with the clip.
