Kansas City Playlist: MAGA Or Progressive Winter Of Discontent Forever?!?

Two things tonight . . .

First . . .

AMERICANS ARE TYPICALLY HAPPY GO LUCK BUT ALREADY THIS YEAR SEEMS ANGRY & FEARFUL !!!

That's kinda sad because things could always get a lot worse and even if the economy is rough there are so many places across the world that couldn't possibly fathom the luxuries, opportunities and good fortune of those who are relatively healthy whilst living and working in this nation.

Still . . .

Blame the economy, culture war or the political opposition: There just aren't a lot of smiles out there as of late.

Maybe more importantly . . .

TKC readers visiting us late at night or early in the morning are the true believers in the power of the local discourse and we appreciate that . . . So we want to make ourselves at least somewhat useful and informative . . . Better than the boogeymen and imaginary doom lurking in the comments or via social media we share news that's more practical . . . Take a look . . .

Here's a quick peek at Kansas City weather worries and what might be the last blast of Winter 2025 . . .

"Temperatures keep dropping overnight, with Sunday morning lows around 10 degrees with wind chills below zero. Morning clouds give way to breaks of sun in the afternoon as highs struggle to reach the upper teens. The next wave of moisture arrives Monday morning with snow showers that may bring around 1″ to the Metro, with up to 3″ across northern Missouri. Another storm brings higher snow amounts on Tuesday, with 2″ to 4″ possible around the Metro . . ."

Of course no spine chilling report can go without skyfall context . . .

VOX: Why the US is freezing as the planet reaches record warmth

And all of this inspires another www.TonysKansasCity.com playlist on the topic of Winter harsh times.

Check the chill music . . .

Not so long ago, "White Winter Hymnal" and the hipster claymation video supporting it from Fleet Foxes was a triumphant cinematic achievement that gave us a bit of hope about musical inspiration from future generations beyond the vicious circle/cycle of pop garbage . . . Take a look & listen . . .

A somewhat recent tribute to loneliness and longing, "Colder Weather" is one of the most thoughtful country music classics ever penned by The Zac Brown band.

Something just a bit more up-to-date . . . Khalid is one of the more talented contemporary singers and his pop/techno track "Winter" is worth a listen to keep TKC denizens up-to-date with current musical trends.

For the bridge this is perfect, Winter Song by Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson speaks to early 2000s-era desperation. The track was popularized on social media, via the bygone Twitter platform actually, at a time when online denizens were becoming disenchanted with so many unfulfilling online connections. The animated video pushed the momentum of the tune even further and provides a great addition to any Wintertime blues soundtrack.

Finally, we finish with a song that's not quite a classic but a testament to a Gen-X band that has endured since the late 80s. Even in the cold of Winter, somewhere Flea is still slapping his bass with the Red Hot Chili Peppers even if he's now in his early 60s. Think about that cold and hard fact of life and enjoy "Snow (Hey Oh)" that's one of the band's more laid back tunes which, mercifully, isn't about California.

As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe & fun Saturday night.
