Kansas City Playlist: Locals STILL Desperately Seeking Love

Tonight we notice that local small biz NEEDS to cash in on local emotions in order to survive our latest Winter of discontent.

Before we get into the music . . .

Let's take a practical look at the sordid topic of cowtown Valentine's Day planning . . .

"Here’s a tip for you lovebirds. Research suggests that if you want to keep love burning in a long-term relationship, doing something that neither of you has done before is one way to ignite a spark. Getting out of your comfort zones together can create its own exciting high. That can mean trying a new-to-you restaurant or even a cuisine, or it can mean exploring a new part of the metro enjoying a meal at a restaurant you never knew existed."

Allow us to retort . . .

THANK HEAVEN IF YOU'RE LUCKY ENOUGH TO ENJOY V-DAY CONTENTLY OR HAVE SOMEBODY THAT JUST WANTS TO CHILL WITH SOME TAKE OUT!!!

Sure . . .

We refuse to play the spoilsport to any kind of love.

But . . .

Even Prez Trump, who has been married THREE TIMES, might tell us that romance can take many shapes & forms.

So, we'll share the foodie info because we love local biz but we also realize the benefits of a cozy home cooked meal or enjoying nuked junk food whilst watching digital streaming garbage.

15 Romantic Kansas City Restaurants - IN Kansas City Magazine

Whether you are head over heels in love, or perfectly fine flying solo, February is the month we tend to talk in terms of hearts and flowers and steak and lobster. Restaurants play a large role in how we typically tend to show our love, and while we've collectively agreed that dining out on Valentine's...

Accordingly, all of this inspires tonight's TKC playlist on the topic of love found in unexpected places like a struggling cowtown restaurant or a dumb-$$ local blog . . .

For most Americans over 40 . . . This joyous song is inscribed into our memories yet still holds up amid constant radio play . . . A bit of background: Released as their album's lead single on June 9, 1977, "Best Of My Love" by The Emotions topped both the US Billboard Hot 100 and US Billboard R&B charts. It also reached the top five in the UK and Canada, the top 10 in New Zealand, and the top 20 in Australia.

One of the most adventurous traits of life on Earth is the ability to adapt and change with the times whilst maintaining true to a core mission and/or set of principles.

Also . . . Let's not deny the talent of the Red Rocker because of petty jealousy. Van Halen's "Why Can't This Be Love" released in 1986 was a departure for the group but also a journey into a more grown up sound that still resonates more than 40 years later.

"So Alive" by Love & Rockets was a weird song because it didn't really fit anywhere but I heard it EVERYWHERE around 1989. Not kidding. From urban core hangouts to the JoCo football practices . . . This tune spoke to everyone because it didn't really speak to anyone and seemed like an apt preview of the coming/current era wherein almost nobody has anything in common anymore . . . Good times . . .

"Head over Feet" is a song by Canadian singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette . . . The song was the most poignant single from the "Jagged Little Pill" album that was a milestone and produced multiple Billboard #1 hits. The best part . . . In the 90s music video era that was packed with flashy multi-million-dollar productions, Morisseette stripped down her production to only a close up on a bare set. The critical reception to the tune was near universal praise. Morissette said it was her wedding song and the simple ode to love is probably the best thing she has ever produced.

Finally, per ushe, we finish with a classic . . . Originally written in 1941. In 1960, rhythm and blues singer "Etta James recorded an arrangement by Riley Hampton that improvised on Harry Warren's original melody. Etta James's rendition was the title track on her debut album At Last! (1960) and was eventually inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999."

The track is one of the defining themes of the modern era and something that every dude would like playing in their lady's head on a loop.

We'll share one of our favorite versions of the track that comes a bit later in the career of Etta James when she still managed brilliance despite struggles with addiction.

As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe & fun Saturday night.
