Kansas City 2025 Homicide Count Rises 260% Over Last Year

At the end of last year local officials touted "progress" in the fight against crime and touted a new KCPD strategy against violence that was producing results.

Today, in this state of the city address, Mayor Q reiterated progress against local violence and claimed local streets were "safer" thanks to cooperative efforts.

Last year at this date on the calendar KC proper counted only 5 homicides. So far in 2025, as of this writing, there have been 18 killings recorded. A bit of simple math shows the 260% increase as we march toward Spring.

Also, this Winter has been rough and there have been multiple instances of fatal domestic violence. That number also correlates to worsening American economic conditions that persist despite of election returns.

And none of this is to say that new strategies against violence aren't effective.

This blog maintains that a glimpse at the data ALSO deserves consideration along with words from elected & appointed officials.

Accordingly, www.TonysKansasCity.com a quick snapshot of local KCPD data tracking that's critical to the discussion of public safety . . .
