KCPD investigate the latest fatal shooting as this year's pace of local homicides continues to escalate over the past five years . . . Here is the first report . . .
Homicide 27th and Askew
This morning, at about 9:30 AM, patrol officers were dispatched to the 3200 block of East 29th Street on a reported disturbance involving an individual armed with a weapon. When officers arrived the subject in question had fled the scene. As officers were investigating several other calls for service were received in the area reporting the same individual involved. Additional officers responded to the scene to canvass the area.
At about 10:00 AM, at 27th and Askew, officers located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. EMS responded to the scene and declared the individual deceased. Preliminary investigation revealed it was the same person involved in the previous incidents.
This is being investigated as a homicide. A subject of interest was taken into custody pending further investigation. Police, at this time, are not looking for any additional suspects. Investigators are working to determine what led up to shots being fired. Crime scene technicians are gathering all available physical evidence and any possible surveillance footage.
If anyone has any information they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
