"As Barney Allis Plaza undergoes a transformative redesign, Kansas City seeks a visionary artist or artist team to shape its future. A Request for Qualifications (RFQ) is now open, inviting artists from around the world to submit their qualifications for this vibrant downtown plaza.

"Barney Allis Plaza is Kansas City’s front door—a place where the community and visitors from around the world are welcomed into the heart of the city. This one-square-block urban park, elevated above the Auditorium Parking Garage, is undergoing a complete redesign and reconstruction, transforming it into a beacon of creativity and civic pride. Framed by the Kansas City Convention Center, the historic Folly Theater, and a skyline of hotels and offices, it will become a central hub of activity and connection.

"This rare and prestigious opportunity offers an artist or artist team the chance to shape Barney Allis Plaza into an iconic cultural landmark. The selected artist(s) will develop a cohesive, site-wide artistic vision, integrating artwork throughout the plaza to create an immersive and unified experience. This project offers a platform for artistic innovation, positioning Barney Allis Plaza as a must-visit destination and a lasting symbol of creativity, community, and Kansas City’s forward-thinking spirit.

"Petrichor Projects, led by Tiffany Meesha Thompson, EMBA, will serve as the curatorial consultant, collaborating with the design and construction teams to ensure art is thoughtfully integrated into the site and will be an essential element of the plaza’s identity. This commission seeks artists who are ready to push creative boundaries and create something truly extraordinary—a space that surprises, delights, and defines the next era of downtown Kansas City."
