Kansas City news watchers have witnessed the "evolution" of Dave Helling over about a half century on air.
He expertely transitioned from a low-end TV news stringer with a killer stache into the senior member of Kansas City Star editorial board.
Now, mostly retired, he's the biggest & loudest pundit on this cowtown's only top political chat show.
Because we've been watching his reports for most of our life . . . We look forward to his comments even when we don't agree . . . One of the highlights of our bloggy journey is telling Dave to his face in public that he didn't know how the Internets works . . . It was fun but, obviously, didn't do me any good.
Nevertheless . . .
This week we think the veteran journalist might have touched a nerve and put himself very, very "far out there" with some speculative commentary.
The basics which mostly serve to remind TKC that's important never to give into the temptation to do a podcast because we're pretty (charmingly) vulgar in person and ALSO say a lot of silly things . . .
Former KC Star Reporter Dave Helling predicts questions regarding the role of Kansas Republican Senator Jerry Moran on lobbying for direct flights from Wichita To D.C.
Here's our transcription Helling's quote:
"Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas, Republican, was heavily involved in the original lobbying to get a flight from Wichita, Kansas to Washington National Airport. And I do think there will be a huge conversation about whether the airspace is too crowded over DCA after that accident. And Jerry Moran may be in some sense, at the center of that discussion."
Actually . . .
NONE OF THAT IS GONNA HAPPEN AND THIS IS THE MOST CYNICAL PARTISAN IMPLICATION WE'VE SEEN SO FAR IN 2025!!!
We're posting this because so many people still don't know how most news commentary is crafted.
Helling doesn't know ANYTHING about flight patterns or aviation . . . He's just repeating some hack K Street talking point that was sent his way and it's truly awful, inflammatory and a sketchy implication at best.
Also it's just wrong.
Senator Moran likely won't have much of a role in any investigation and given that there's another fresh plane crash to fear in Philly . . . When inquiry time comes around . . . It's tragic but very likely that the public will have lost interest and moved on to the next, inevitable, crisis.
Meanwhile . . .
Whilst Prez Trump took a great deal of criticism for his anti-DEI comments immediately following the crash . . . This homegrown blame game perspective seems not only callous but also contrived given that the politico in question didn't really have much to do with this tragedy at all.
