Check-it . . .
"According to court documents, investigators with the Kansas City Police Department determined the crash victim was walking from west to east in the crosswalk on the north side of 12th Street and Grand Boulevard.
"As the victim walked into the northbound lanes of Grand Boulevard, the traffic light on Grand was red. A gold, four-door sedan was seen driving at a 'high rate of speed' and hit the victim, who was carrying two grocery bags. The car kept going without stopping to check on the pedestrian.
"Court documents state that a short time later, someone called 911 to report a gold, four-door sedan had seemingly been involved in a crash and abandoned near 9th and Jefferson Street. Responding officers saw the car had damage consistent with the crash on Grand, as 'the windshield was broke nadn caved in, and the roof and trunk area were also damaged.' In addition, 'the two plastic sacks the pedestrian was carrying were located embedded in the vehicle.' "
