Police Need Witnesses After Platte County Citizen Reporter Killed

Officers approached the car and found a man, later identified by the Platte County Sheriff’s Department as 50-year-old Liberty resident Dennis A. Sharkey, who appeared to have been shot and unresponsive inside.

He was taken to a hospital for treatment but was later pronounced dead.

Sharkey was a sports reporter at a local newspaper, The Platte County Citizen. On Saturday afternoon, the paper issued a statement on Facebook saying, “The Platte County Citizen staff are saddened by the loss of Dennis Sharkey, the Citizen’s sports reporter, who died by homicide Friday night.”
