Thanks to the BEST & BRIGHTEST TKC READERS . . . We talked about this early Sunday afternoon and then the word hit late evening newscasts.
Later in the evening . . . The Mayor responded with some familiar ideas and so we ask . . .
IS MAYOR Q'S RESPONSE ENOUGH AMID OUTCRY FROM KANSAS CITY'S EMBATTLED RESTAURANT SCENE?!?
Remember . . .
This is a longstanding problem that wasn't really solved with $70K in a "Back To Business" fund slowly distributed to locals after a Summer of broken windows and robberies.
From what we've seen . . .
The Mayor is taking a great deal of criticism and we're not sure if his ideas for more public meetings on this topic are taking hold.
In fairness, here's and extended quote from the latest news cycle . . . Check-it:
“As a regular customer long before I was in this role, I am very sorry to see this, and every one of the dozens of posts we have seen over the past year relating to petty crimes and the several seen today,” Kansas City, Missouri, Mayor Quinton Lucas said.
Lucas noted efforts such as community improvement districts, two new detention facilities and camera and lighting enhancements citywide, however, law enforcement officials are the ultimate enforcers.
“That said, we have provided them a full budget to fund officers and tech to address these issues,” Mayor Lucas continued. “We will do so again this year and will continue to work with them and our new prosecutor in Jackson County to ensure there’s deterrence through effective investigation and arrests, support from the City for those impacted and that we work with the state, not just through the Police Board, but our new governor to get additional enforcement help until PD meets its staffing goals.”
The Mayor said the level of crime that remains in Kansas City is unacceptable. He has asked affected business owners to share their stories and concerns with the Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners at BOPC@kcpd.org or at its next open meeting at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
