Bethesda, Maryland - Torey Southwick, 94, a popular Kansas City radio and television personality, passed away Saturday, December 21, 2024, following a short battle with pneumonia.
Torey started his broadcasting career on the radio as a disc jockey at the age of 19 in Detroit, MI, where he was born in 1930. He soon moved to Kansas City where he had popular radio shows and children's television shows (along with his puppet "Ol' Gus") for more than a decade. His shows, "Torey Time" every weekday morning and "Torey & Friends" every afternoon, consistently topped the KC ratings over national shows like The Today Show, Captain Kangaroo and The Mike Douglas Show.
