Kansas City Preps Animal Control Takeover From Pet Project

It seems that a horrific dog mauling that killed an innocent dude was inciting incident that sparked change at city hall. 

Also . . .

For years our blog community and so many other outlets have complained about doggie danger on urban core streets that simply wasn't addressed by KC Pet Project given that their main concern was No-Kill policy and providing a hangout for A LOT of middle-class single ladies.

Here are the basics of this week's power move from Mayor & Council with virtually no opposition: 

"The plan was presented to City Council on Thursday by the Neighborhood Services Department, after the city last year rejected a contract renewal proposal from KC Pet Project. The organization had provided animal control enforcement since 2020 under a $2.5 million contract with Kansas City.

"Neighborhood Services director Forest Decker says the yearly cost for animal control under city operation would be slightly higher than before, about $2.9 million. But he says service would improve."
