Kansas City Police Officers Opted Out Of Community Advisory Board

From our perspective . . .

The police ending their attendance was JUSTIFIED given that a recent report from the Prosecutor's office was mostly an anti-police screed . . . Or at least the reference of the group's findings seemed to fit the same old us vs. them narrative.

In any event . . .

This report today references the group and deserves another look . . . We highlighted the parts of the quote that stand out . . .

"At an end-of-the-year press conference, (KCPD Chief) Graves said she had learned about the report but was still reading the full document.

"The reports suggestions came from the advisory board, which included members of law enforcement.

"However, the officers stopped attending meetings after the first few sessions.

"In the last line of the report, the document said the board would have benefited from more of their insights, perspectives and lived experiences."

"Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson took her oath of office on Friday, Jan. 3.

"In an earlier press conference, Johnson said she would continue the community advisory boards work during her tenure. Johnson added she wants to have direct conversations with the departments involved in the report when discussing changes to policy and protocols."
