Kansas City Playlist: Blizzard Warning 2025

The latest update to this sketchy weather saga tonight . . .

There's a now blizzard warning.

The main point . . .

The National Weather Service expanded a Blizzard Warning to now include Kansas City Metro counties.

The warning will be in place from 3 a.m. Sunday to 3 a.m. Monday and include:

- Wyandotte County
- Johnson County
- Jackson County

So far the downfall has been an icy mess but this update makes us think things might get a bit more interesting going forward.

FIRST WARN WEATHER DAY: Kansas City Metro counties added to Blizzard Warning

The current precipitation is lackluster and not as widespread as the models are indicating at this time, which is a good thing because we do not want a lot of ice accumulation.

And of course . . .

All of this informs our playlist for tonight . . .

For better or worse, "Ice, Ice Baby" is a 90s-era standard that heavily sampled "Under Pressure" by David Bowie & Freddie Mercury. Accordingly, Vanilla Ice reminds us that our Saturday nights are reserved for nostalgia . . .

As always we seek to unite communities . . . This track from M.O.P. is beloved by 40-something dudes who still listen to hardcore rap AND it samples one of the best tunes ever produced by Foreigner . . . "Cold As Ice" Check-it . . .

I don't know why . . . But I always often feel like Pat Benatar never garnered enough respect. Vocally . . . She was much more talented than most of her contemporaries . . . 80s-style probably doomed her legacy but without being dated by 80s-MTV-era video . . . Her songs are worthy of consideration for fans of American music in the 20th century. Tonight her song "Fire & Ice is apropos . . . Check-it:

An old-school commerical break for the bridge . . . Just for fellow old-heads . . . We dig into the archives for this de facto La Bamba cover with a winter twist from Trini Lopez . . . "The Blizzard Song" is campy advert for Fresca but speaks to simpler times and worth a quick listen on a Saturday night.

PERFECT for this evening and for our playlist finale . . . Jack White wrote this song and then realized that the narrator was female and so it's a rare track wherein Meg takes the lead from behind her drum kit and, coincidentally, helps to craft what turned out to be one of the most haunting tracks ever produced by The White Stripes.

As always, thanks for reding this week and have a SAFE & fun Saturday night.
