As we approach another work week, even the most optimistic cowtown residents are now confronted by an inconvenient fact . . .
KANSAS CITY TRASH & RECYCLING HAS BEEN PILING UP FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS FOR MOST LOCALS!!!
Accordingly . . .
This town will now have to quickly switch gears and resolve longstanding trash removal complaints rather than endure so much hype regarding snow removal.
A preview . . .
The City Hall approved rhetorical strategy has been to highlight how many public works employees pull a double duty on this front. That kinda overlooks all of the sweet city contracts but we get the point.
Our contention . . .
After all these years KCMO STILL hasn't solved a great deal of trash pickup complaints and they might just get even worse in the next few days.
Given recent predictions of colder temperatures . . . Our main question is . . .
DOES MAYOR Q HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR BALANCING TRASH & RECYCLING BINS ON FOUR FOOT TALL SNOW DRIFTS?!?
We'll wait here patiently for the answer.
In the meantime . . . All of these questions have inspired our www.TonysKansasCity.com playlist on the topic of trash tonight . . .
Let's make this one snappy for our quickly approaching garbage day . . .
As always, our playlist is mostly about nostalgia. At the end of the Biden-era we take heart given that Steve Miller's version of an American Blues standard "Your Cash Ain't Nothing But Trash" gives voice to longstanding concern about inflation and, in this context, probably also alludes to Prez Nixon moving the world off the gold standard.
Garbage is our favorite mainstream emo-rock band from the 90s and their track "I Think I'm Paranoid" isn't one of their biggest hits BUT seems apropos for any political blog.
The 3 R's by Jack Johnson was a trendy bit of indoctrination back in 2006 and it was, deservedly, universally mocked. Still, if the NextGen is defined by propaganda . . . It might as well have a nice back-beat and soulful lyrics that are much more relaxed than social media ranting.
Once again . . . The abysmal work of Genesis brings us to the bridge. Readers have undoubtedly heard "Throwing It All Away" on some soul-crushing adult contemporary FM radio station . . . But tonight the song fits our playlist and gives us hope for the future inasmuch as we fondly remember that a completely mediocre band with very few redeeming qualities once dominated the global music charts.
Finally . . . And speaking of the defiantly mediocre . . . We're pulling this quote regarding "Trash" by The New York Dolls to conclude the playlist because it speaks to a distant era when mainstream music was still worthy of criticism . . . Check-it: "Journalist and author Phil Strongman interpreted the singer's appeal to his subject as being in the context of a socially deviant New York City: 'in under four minutes, it tells a bittersweet'n'sour low-life love story – how does the girl call her lover-boy? 'Trash!' – in majestic trash-Glam style. These people might be hookers, rent boys, junkies, sneak thieves – or so the lyrics imply – but they're still human beings and their subject matter is still tragedy."
As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe & fun Saturday night.
