Kansas City 2025 Homicide #11: Woman Dies Weeks After Shooting During Standoff

The victim was shot in the face during an altercation and succumbed to her wounds this week.

In Kansas City she was known as LuLu Livingston -- A tireless advocate and leader for the homeless community.

A reminder regarding the tragic case . . . 

"Around 10:15 a.m. on Jan. 14, law enforcement officials said they were called to the area of E. 26th St. and Montgall Ave. with reports of a disturbance. Multiple individuals in an argument could be heard as well as a woman yelling for help.

"When first responders arrived, they said they could hear the argument continue, however, as they knocked on the door, they heard several gunshots ring out from inside. An emergency entry was made and Meyer was rescued with several life-threatening gunshot wounds.

"Investigators noted that Meyer was rushed to a nearby hospital where she ultimately died more than two weeks later. Several children were safely removed from the home as a man later identified as Steve Coleman, was seen barricading himself in a bedroom."

UPDATE/Late Death-Operation 100 2700 block of E 27th

UPDATE: On 01/29/25 at 6:14PM, Assault Squad detectives were notified the victim in this incident had died as a result of her injuries. This is now being investigated as a homicide.

The victim has been identified as Davina Meyer, W/F, 10/08/1980.

The suspect that was taken into custody on scene has been charged by Jackson County prosecutors. The prosecutors will review the additional findings for consideration of amended/additional charges related to the homicide. For further information, please contact their office.
