Just a few hours after elected officials were bragging about a reduction in homicides in 2024 that MIGHT have been mostly due to an extremely cold January . . . The rate of local killing picks up where we left off with tragic urban gunfire . . . Here's the first report . . .
Homicide 3100 blk of Elmwood
This morning, just after 2:45 AM, patrol officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of Elmwood on a reported shooting.
When they arrived to the area they were directed to a residence on Elmwood. Officers located an adult male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel responded and pronounced the victim deceased. An additional adult male shooting victim was also located. He was transported to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries.
This is being investigated as a homicide. The preliminary investigation revealed there were several people gathered at a residence prior to shots being fired. Investigators are trying to determine what led up to the victims being struck. Crime scene personnel are gathering any available physical evidence and detectives are canvassing the area.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.
We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.

Shots fired during New Year's gathering marks Kansas City's first homicide of 2025
One man was injured and another was killed after shots were fired during a gathering early Wednesday morning.
