A court challenge to the Missouri State Tax Commission’s August order to cap Jackson County's 2023 residential property valuations at a 15 percent increase is underway.

The county is attempting to overturn that order . . .

Jackson County Legislator Sean Smith was also in court observing testimony.

“It's extremely frustrating to see the administration challenge this. Our county counsel was directed by a majority in the legislature not to appeal the ruling and to seek to properly enforce the ruling,” he said.
