The results are mixed regarding efforts to curtail illegal gunfire that often accompanies every local milestone in Kansas City.
On the bright side . . . The stats offer a reason for hope.
However . . .
What residents heard on local streets tells a different story.
Let's start with documentation . . .
"KCPD reported it received 109 calls for the sound of gunshots fired from 6 p.m. on New Year's Eve to 6 a.m. on New Year's Day.
"In addition, the department's ShotSpotter system had 122 activations with 697 rounds fired, according to KCPD.
"Last year, KCMO police reported 185 calls about sound of gunshots and 187 ShotSpotter activations with 1,180 rounds fired."
That's a hopeful take . . . However, here's a more realistic quote that readers sent our way . . .
"Midnight at my house sounded like a war zone, I heard automatic weapons and all kinds of gunshots. So much for a safer city."
