During the meeting, White’s Chief of Staff Caleb Clifford said White wants to make sure the $70.4 million’s used appropriately and not sent back to the federal government.

“He will be providing more details on that later, but that he is fully committed to it,” Clifford said about his boss’ plan.

“However, he wants to be clear that he will not support any solicitation process that involves analyzing those responses and awarding contracts in less than 30 days, which is now what we have left, and so we’re going to have to look at alternatives to doing so.”

The fact that White wasn’t at Monday’s meeting angered Democratic Legislator DaRon McGee.

“You’ve had this money since 2021, and I don’t know what your plan is,” he said to Clifford.

“To this day, you have not given us an ordinance. You say you’ve got plans, you’ve got recommendations, where’s the ordinance? These people can’t wait. The community can’t wait. This is nuts. We are risking sending this money back to D.C.”
