The large “Splash of Life” building, located at East 44th Street and Troost Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri, stores food and clothes and distributes them to those in need. In spite of its charitable mission, it’s no stranger to problems— particularly fires.

“We’ve been in it several times before on fires smaller fires,” said Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.
Neighbors say they’ve expressed their concerns about the building numerous times over the years, but feel they haven’t been taken seriously.
