This morning we notice an interesting approach to distress in the Kansas City urban core.
Moreover . . .
Notice Mayor Q endorsing this anti-crime effort that doesn't directly involve law enforcement.
Meanwhile . . . Our Northland friends might be hopeful or skeptical given that only one or two cop cars protects the nice side of the bridge on most weekends.
Nevertheless . . .
Here's the promo from Mayor Q and then more info . . .
"Not every human crisis requires an armed response or a 911 call
"We recently launched the REACH program to help those struggling with substance use, mental health issues, extreme poverty, or homelessness."
Here are more deets from the City Hall website:
REACH, short for Responding with Empathetic Alternatives & Community Health, is a compassionate public health initiative aimed at addressing non-violent crime. Our aim is to offer assistance and support individuals in accessing necessary resources.
Who does REACH help?
During its launch, REACH services will be available to residents living on Prospect Ave. Corridor from 27th to 45th Street.
Why REACH?
The REACH program is here to help residents struggling with substance use, mental health issues, and extreme poverty without getting the criminal justice system involved. Instead of treating these problems as crimes, we aim to provide people with the help they need for a better life.
