The aftermath of a controversial decision to commute the prison sentence of a former KCPD detective is pretty much following a culture war script.

KANSAS CITY STAR ALLEGING "COWARDICE" COMES VERY CLOSE TO FIGHTING WORDS TARGETING POLICE SUPPORTERS!!!

"This political act of cowardice, Kansas City, is precisely why so many people have no faith that the criminal justice system is a level playing field.
"The fact that the governor made the announcement late on Friday afternoon before the sleepy week of Christmas is all the proof you need that he knows what he’s doing is wrong. There has never been any serious suggestion that DeValkenaere was railroaded. No allegation that his trial was unjust, or his six-year sentence unduly harsh."

Actually there were many complaints of unfair prosecution.
In fact . . .
TKC NOTED ANTI-POLICE ACTIVISTS FLOATING SKETCHY THEORIES ALLEGING A PLANTED GUN WAS A DISSERVICE TO THE KANSAS CITY DISCOURSE!!!
The claims were so outrageous that scared to even fact check the court case rumors and so the talk festered and created more division about this case.
So . . .
Agree or disagree about the decision . . . There is no denying that there were legit complaints about the trial and it's circumstances.
