As always, the biggest debate here isn't about the merits of the effort . . . But the placement of these facilities that are mostly in Northeast & East Side neighborhoods . . . Check-it:
“No one deserves to sleep on the streets any night of the year,” said Doug Langner, the Executive Director of Hope Faith, a shelter in Kansas City.
Dozens of people waited outside Hope Faith’s doors for hours before the facility opened at 6 p.m., but the staff expected a full house later in the evening . . . Hope Faith has 135 beds, but that Kansas City as a whole needs more shelter beds for the homeless. Hope Faith also wants to turn its winter warming shelter into a year-round operation with the goal of ending the cycle of homelessness.

Kansas City's homeless shelters open for winter
Homeless shelters across Kansas City opened for the first time of the winter season on Sunday. It's part of Zero KC's extreme weather plan to keep shelters open every night from December 1 to March 1, regardless of the temperature.
