Kansas City 2024 Homicide #144: Woman Shot Dead Overnight

Once again this weekend we notice that the uptick in Kansas City violence over the past few years has impacted an inordinate number of local women. 

From domestic violence to random gunfire . . . There is very little chivalry left on urban streets as we count the latest victim of KCMO gunfire.

Here's the first report . . . 

Homicide 7600 block of Monroe

On 12/28/24, shortly after 10PM, officers were dispatched to the 7600 block of Monroe Avenue on a reported sound of shots call for service.

While officers were in route to the call, they were flagged down by an individual who stated she was transporting a shooting victim to the hospital and needed help. Officers immediately removed an adult female victim from the vehicle who was unresponsive and suffering from apparent gunshot trauma. Medical aid was provided for the victim by officers on scene until emergency medical personnel responded. The victim was immediately transported to an area hospital where she had succumbed to her injuries while and was subsequently pronounced deceased.

We do not currently have any preliminary information indicating what lead up to the shooting. We are working quickly to gather information on anyone who may be responsible for this incident. There is not currently anyone in police custody.

Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to the scene to begin gathering any evidence and collecting witness statements.

This incident is being investigated as a homicide and is going at this time.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
