Jackson County Legislature Offers Compromise Amid EPIC Deadline

We're getting down to the wire with only a few sessions before 70 MILLION bucks goes back to the feds and the courthouse loses one of the biggest chunks of change they've ever seen.

Accordingly . . .

CHECK PROGRESS AS THE LEGISLATURE OFFERS EXEC FRANK WHITE COMPROMISE!!!

The notes posted earlier today offer a peek at the process and how the Legislature's approach differs from the Exec . . .

Here's what might be the most important passage of the note . . .

"Before the Legislature, there are currently two paths: one, directed by the County Executive and Administration who would use the regular budgeted past salaries of emergency responders to justify recovering ARPA funds into the general fund's saving account. The money would then sit there until Legislature agrees how to budget these funds, only further delaying community impact and likely indefinitely holding any future external expenditures through this executive term.

"Alternatively there are over thirty different, vetted and local government driven projects that have a direct need and are immediately able to oblige the funds . . . Nearly all municipalities have at least on project in this effort and by selecting worthy projects and authorizing the chair of the legislature and executive to oblige these funds prior to the December 31st deadline, it is our last attempt at compromising with the executive. We pick the projects and he, through his line-item veto power, must pick the amount to fund. "
