Independence, Missouri Stays Winning LGBTQ+ Equity Ranking

Here's a glimpse at local progress that has been both hard fought and also controversial with many voters . . . Either way . . . The shout out merits attention for denizens of the local discourse . . .

"The city was awarded 62 out of 100 total points in the Municipal Equality Index (MEI) 2024 by the Human Rights Campaign. The score in 2023 was 17, a 225% increase.

"The increase can be attributed to several key factors including additional protections for lGBTQ+ youth, increased representation with LGBTQ+ city leaders and adding LGBQT+ liaisons and task forces."
