Family Protests After Mom & Baby Shot Dead By Independence Police

On Sunday a small gathering of locals protested outside Independence, Missouri Police headquarters following the deadly police shooting a mother and her infant daughter during an altercation wherein officers were attacked with an extremely large kitchen knife.

From our perspective . . . The story has reignited local divisions between some supporters of police and constant critics of law enforcement . . . In reality, most reasonable people want (and are willing to wait) for more police accountability and transparency on this case to ensure that the lives of other youngsters are protected in the future.

For now, here's a roundup of tonight's coverage . . .

"The Independence Police Department released an edited video of the moments leading up to their death last week as IPD said it was committed to transparency in this case.

"The investigation by the Eastern Jackson County Police Involved Incident Team is still underway, but family members of Pike and Hope are asking for more information about how the situation escalated to Pike grabbing a knife and an officer shooting their gun at the two.

"On Sunday, family members gathered alongside members of KC LEAP (Law Enforcement Accountability Project) asking for the IPD to release the full video unedited for all to see."

The family of Maria Pike and her baby Destinii Hope rallied outside of Independence Police headquarters Sunday and demanded transparency from investigators. Independence Police released highly-edited footage of the incident last week.
