The local celebration of lights wherein we always remind bloggy readers not to confuse their mostly misguided feelings about international events with respect, and dare we say even love, for neighbors.

“It is a happy holiday,” said City Manager Brian Platt. “It’s holiday of celebration, of life and prosperity, of success of the Jewish people outlasting a lot of adversity over thousands of years.”
Platt and Mayor Quinton Lucas gave their remarks before local Jewish community leaders spoke about what Hanukkah is all about. Finally, the menorah was lit inside city council chambers, while the crowd sung in Hebrew.

On the second night of Hanukkah, city leaders in Kansas City met with members of the Jewish community to recognize and celebrate the festival of lights.
