Actually . . . 

We knew it was all over for Jay Ashcroft back when Missouri State Senator Denny Hoskins flexed on him with a demeaning tirade and a lot of bass in his voice

A little more than 100 years ago . . . A display like that would've merited a public duel. However, Mr. Ashcroft took the highroad and seems to have decided it wasn't worth it to argue with so many country bumpkins laying claim to their "territory" that's mostly gas stations and fireworks stands. 

Accordingly . . . 

Here's the end of a political legacy that likely peeked with a rather gully open mic that's seared into the brains of GenXers and STILL makes so many otherwise conservative 40-something dudes feel just a bit guilty about voting for corny Republicans . . . Thankfully, the Dems are equally cringe.

Ashcroft is the only statewide official elected in 2016 who still holds the same post that voters bestowed. In that time there have been two governors, two lieutenant governors, three state treasurers and three attorneys general.

“I don’t have any intention to run for office again,” Ashcroft said in an interview with The Independent. “I somewhat jokingly, but also truthfully, say I’ve done my time. I think I should be paroled after eight years.”
