In the aftermath of this week's historic Republican sweep of the 2024 presidential election, Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas is slowly but surely offering a hint of continued resistance against GOP rule.
Today, the Mayor Q shares a wordy election analysis in the newspaper that overthinks national politics and seemingly forgets that HIS JOB IS NONPARTISAN.
Here's what might be the highlight . . . Mayor Q's take on Democratic Party downfall . . .
"The pitch leaving the Democratic convention, however, called for preservation of democracy and a halt to Project 2025. The goals were laudable, but the goal missed conversations of everyday Americans in exurban communities throughout middle America. The Republican ticket spoke to issues that are as universal as they are banal: strong borders, safer cities and a better economy. And importantly, Trump shared that narrative as a showman in a McDonald’s drive-thru, dressed as a sanitation worker and dancing, without a hint of irony, to a Village People banger. His efforts were laughable, but unforgettable. A generation on, Trump — a character we’ve all known too long — adapted Bill Clinton’s 'I feel your pain' in a way modern Democrats never answered."

Quinton Lucas: Democrats win on the issues. Donald Trump won on the message
More importantly . . .
Let's quickly consider partisan fights confronting Mayor Q . . .
- The issue of migrants and "welcoming" cities like KCMO will be put to the test as MAGA and Missouri GOP will gladly cooperate in upcoming deportation efforts.
- From the stadiums to so many pet projects . . . Look for Missouri Republicans to be VERY STINGY when it comes to Kansas City. Highway funding and friendly biz deals for the Missouri good ol' boy network will rank much higher than metro concerns.
- Efforts touting local control of police are permanently stalled as Missouri Republican leaders want to try again at getting STL back under Jeff City rule.
Finally . . .
Mayor Q might soon get pulled into a nasty debate over abortion when Missouri Republicans rebuke voters and work on repealing Amendment 3.
Accordingly . . .
Mayor Q now finds himself against incredible odds facing Republican majorities statewide and on the national level. Even worse, he doesn't seem willing to take a different tact beyond outright legal and political confrontation. And so we ask:
Will Missouri & MAGA end up destroying what's left of Mayor Q's once promising career?!?
You decide . . .
