Will Assured Pardon Of Former Detective Spark Kansas City Unrest?!?

An upcoming pardon for a convicted former Kansas City detective is sure to cause controversy or maybe worse.

A few thoughts . . .

- Politically charged pardons are becoming increasingly commonplace . . . It's part of our justice system and claiming otherwise ignores so many other acts of clemency celebrated by local activists.

- Before the election there was the threat of activist violence in this case but we don't think that'll materialize for one simple reason: Cameron Lamb was killed nearly five years ago and people have had time to process their emotions surrounding the case. We don't mean to seem callous by merely noting that even the most dedicated activists would have a hard time convincing their constituents to risk jail time and participate in some kind of "uprising" for a guy that has been dead for half a decade.

- We're just starting an life with MAGA . . . Politics is a marathon and not a sprint. In fact, in this instance we should express our sympathy for Mr. Lamb's family . . . In many ways their grief was exploited as part of politicized arguments against police & Republicans and now that their story has no clear election advantage . . . They might find fewer allies despite enduring loss. We can only hope that critics would refrain from any arguments against Mr. Lamb's family and realize that they've been swept up in years of political argumentation that will never replace their son.

And so we share this roundup and a preview of a controversial decision in the making . . .

Lamb’s convicted killer Eric Devalkanere is currently serving a six-year prison sentence for his 2019 death. Governor-elect Mike Kehoe said in a speech last week, he plans to cut that sentence short.

“I’ve been very vocal about saying, should I succeed in running for governor, Eric DeValkenaere will be home with his family,” said Kehoe . . .

Kehoe’s statement reopens old wounds for the (Lamb) family who says they have turned to their faith for healing.

“Our hope and trust is not in them because they done showed us what they gonna do, so our hope and trust and our faith is in Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and He’s gonna have the last word,” said Lamb’s stepfather Aqil Bey.
