The annual Cerner conference annually drew thousands of attendees and created millions of dollars in economic impact for the Kansas City area. In 2017, the conference led to more than 18,000 booked hotel room nights and created an estimated $20.11 million in economic impact, according to Kansas City Business Journal data.
The switch in location for the annual health conference isn't the only change since Cerner became Oracle Health. What once was the top private employer in the KC metro, has dwindled to 6,400 employees based in Missouri, according to Bloomberg, which cited leaked internal company documents.
How Kansas City’s Oracle presence got there today is marked by leadership changes within Oracle Health, strings of layoffs and the shuttering of former Cerner campuses in Kansas City, North Kansas City and Kansas City, Kansas.
